November 27th – Rohrer Wins, Burgess Qualifies at Foot Locker Midwest

Both Mishawaka’s Anna Rohrer and West Lafayette’s Bobbie Burgess extended their already exemplary 2012 cross country campaigns by 2 more weeks this past Saturday at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional.

Both Rohrer and Burgess grabbed one of the to

p 10 automatic qualifying positions for the 2012 Foot Locker Championships, held in San Diego, California on December 8th, 2012. There are 4 Regional meets in

all, qualifying only the 40 most elite athletes in the country for the Finals.

Rohrer, just a sophomore, was particularly extraordinary in winning the regional by seven seconds, running a personal best, and breaking the all-time cross country Indiana best time. She covered the 5k course in 16:54, the first time an Indiana girl has ever broken 17 minutes. She will enter

the Championship race as one of the favorites for a top

4 finish and may contend for the win.

West Lafayette senior Bobbie Burgess, who was third at the IHSAA State Meet finished 9th overall in a personal best 17:35 to grab the second to last qualifying spot.

In the boys race, Jackson Bertoli of Terre Haute South finished the highest of any Indiana male in 13th in a personal best 15:21.

In 2011, no Indiana girls qualified for the Championships, however Futsum Zeinasellassie and Sam Berger qualified on the boys side.

Many more Indiana natives competed in Saturday’s meet and placed high in the process.
