Meet Information for the 2013 Indiana Runner Distance Showcase!

December 18th, 2012

Indiana Runner is happy to announce the meet information for the Fourth Annual Indiana Runner Distance Showcase.

The meet, which saw a record number of competing athletes last year will welcome a few changes to an already successful and high anticipated format.

The first change is in the meet date. Traditionally held on the first Friday of February, the change will be made this year to the first Saturday of the month. That puts this years’ meet on February 2nd, 2013. The meet will also be held in the morning rather than late in the evening. The reasoning behind the change in date/time was based on the growing size of the meet. In 2012, the entries doubled from 2011. Because of the previous start time on Friday night, it was necessary to change to Saturday morning to cater to drive time for competing athletes. While athletes are generally pretty open-minded to race time, parents and coaches found the late night to be less than ideal.

The second change is in the location. For the first time in it’s history, the meet will be held at a site other than Anderson University. The meet will be held at the University of Indianapolis’ NEW Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC).

The track and field facility was just recently completed in November 2012. In total, it comes in at 92,000 square feet with 68,000 of that dedicated to the air-supported dome indoor competition facility. The facility was
the host of the New York Giants NFC Practice Facility for the 2012 Super Bowl held in Indianapolis.

The change of facility stemmed from the opportunity to make the meet more centralized in order to attract equally from all five hot-spots of distance running in Indiana (Evansville, Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and the Region) as well as the Saturday availability.

At this time, the meet is scheduled to host the following events: 1200 meter run, 800m, Mile, 3200m, Distance Medley Relay. The ability to
host a “Community Mile” is also being investigated. A final list of events will be released very soon as the time schedule is determined. Generally, entries for the meet open up around the New Year.

An elite rabbit for the IR Mile will be scouted as well as an elite athlete autograph area.
