2012 Girls 4×800 Preview by Coach Cash

3200 Relay

January 26th, 2012

This team cranks out 800 runners like Bub’s Cafe cranks out delicious elk burgers. They lose two runners from the State meet, but will replace them without losing blinking.

Everyone returns for this relay, and they will be chasing a team title. Latrice Bolton will have a great year. what is a domain name system . I know they have some talent coming in, but they probably will keep this relay as is.

Franklin Central

Should easily find a replacement for Alex Green. The Flashes will sell out for the distance events, and they usually have a pretty good stock of 800 runners.

Bloomington North

Maybe a bit surprising to see them here, but they ran 9:32 last year with two sophomores and two freshmen. there is no way that they can run slower.

The usually Fort Wayne 4×8 powerhouse will find themselves in an unusual position of chasing another area team all year. They return all four runners from a very young team.

Hamilton Southeastern

They will need a bold statement from this squad to assert themselves at the State meet. They will be in the team race.

Even though people would understand if Ashley Erba didn’t run this relay to focus on individual events…I think she will be on the squad. She is about the team, that is how she is wired.

Will probably use the same team from last year in the tournament. Look for cameo apperances by Helen Willman during the season as they try to keep it fresh.

They return all six runners, including Mary Davis, who did not run at the State meet. They ran very well without her, but will be a more explosive team with her. Emily Lux should be stronger this year.

Ben Davis

Tough position to be in for them right now, as Connie Brahm is currently sidelined, and Devyn Vandever lacks mental toughness. Look for Kimmy (Gibler) Gramer to have a breakout season.

Lawrence Central

They are in a great striking position because they are forced to bump up one of their 4×4 runners to this relay, thanks to the addition of Addison Hall.

Ally Reyes had a great cross country season, and is looking to carry over that success. They have to replace two, but should have no trouble doing so.

Columbus North

Rough going at last year’s State meet, but should have gained valuable experience. They return fully loaded and hungry.

Needs to see some improvement from Lauren Bigger, and there is a better possibility of Katelyn Devries running on the relay this year.

The fact that they had three freshman on the squad last year is a pretty good indicator that their time will drop significantly this year.

Terre Haute North

They return all six runners, plus Tapring Goatee. I don’t know if she is in the plans for the relay, but it is nice to have her as an option.

Crown Point

Even though they are a talented squad, and they are capable of doing very well in the postseason, they are in a fragile state. They can not afford any injuries because they have no depth.

This squad was pretty inexperienced last year, and it showed. They return every runner, and Penn has a great fall program…I see them dropping at least twelve seconds from last season’s time.

Sarah Virgil (little sister of Seth) and Emily Seiltz will both need to have a big year in order for the relay to do well, there is not much depth or experience behind them.

North Central

They return all four runners, inclidung two now-sohpomores. Mary Bittner had a great fall, and is looking to continue her success in 2012.
