Luke Briggs Training Blog 5/17/12 – HHC Meet
Monday 5/7 6 mile pre meet run then off to my church where we drove downtown to have buca di beppo and film our post high school plans. I ate entirely too much pasta. Tuesday 5/8 Noblesville Relays- i was suprised to hear it was the 62nd annual running of it. We stacked our 4×1600 hoping that the others would do the same. Unfortunately that didnt happen, and after the 1st leg we were alone. I was 2nd leg and ran 4:34 high. Around 45 minutes later was the DMR where 3 of us who ran the 4×1600 doubled back. I ran the 800 leg in 1:59. 20 minutes later was the 4×4 where i was 2nd leg and ran :52. Overall a pretty good workout day with some interesting events. Shuttle hurdles is the event i really wanted to run, but for some strange reason that just wasnt in coach’s plan. Wednesday 5/9 The JV distance and mid distance did time trials today. The mile was the race of the day with Dawit Waldai going 4:51. He has really improved and i can’t wait to see how far he will go with his last 4 seasons.a did 6 miles total for the day. Thursday 5/10 pre meet of 5 miles, strides and exchanges before icing Friday 5/11 Hoosier Crossroads Conference- Quite the pre race drama. Our 4×8 anchor, Calvin, had team sports second period and got kneed in the quad pretty bad. He was limping around the school the whole day and was in the nurse icing a couple times. We went from thinking we could win to worrying a bit. After the long car ride and some light jogging by him helped him decide he could try. The actual race went out well. Conner did his thing and took the lead after the first lap and handed the baton to me at 1:57 flat. I took off with fishers right on me going through the 400 in 55 and I handed off in 1:57. Spencer had a great day, and pr’d by 2 seconds to run 1:57. lastly Calvin got the baton, running through the 200 is 30 seconds, at that point i thought that he was truly hurt.. but once rocky from fishers got on his tail he realized that he might as well pick it up. He came through and ran 1:56 high. This is our school record, meet record, and an exact tie with pike for 1st in the state. This means there will be no letting up. I am excited in what we can all do in a couple week (with taking football out of our schedules). I came back in the 800. I went through the 400 with sam leading with me and conner tied after i moved in front of rocky. Sam and Conner made a move with 200 and my legs just didnt have it. In the last couple meters, Rocky kicked hard and out leaned me. 4th isnt what i was hoping for but im ok with how things are turning out. The whole 4×4 basically tripled, i went :52. we didnt run too well, but had some good practice for when regional comes around.
Saturday 5/12
Longer run of 8. My heel started to hurt after 5 miles Chocolate milk tastes 5 times better after runs.
Sunday 5/13
easy run of 5 after church
Conference was a good day, Avon had never gotten better than 4th in the HCC and with the second place finish, we did better that, by losing to a strong HSE team. Our 110 hurdlers impressed me and both made finals after being seeded pretty low. I’m so happy that i can leave this team confident that Avon will keep improving each year. This is a good way to go into the tournament. Shoutout to Josh Barnes and Brandon Cassiday who i am in study hall right now with, while writing this. Tournament time is here. I’m excited to end my senior year the right way.
For sectionals, i thought this video would be an inspiration for everyone as we all go into sectionals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJf4USdb8lg&list=FLm38qlb-wl8VyZ6G7xR_Wvw&index=3&feature=plpp_video
