Luke Briggs Training Blog 5/10/12 – Marian University Signing
monday 4/30
This was supposed to be the day of the zionsville fishers home meet, but in typical indiana weather, it stormed. Luckily i ran a little before the meet since i kinda thought it wouldget cancelled. The 4×8 guys did a 8x(2 minutes on 2 minutes off) to get a little something in. The field house is 160 meters so i only lasted the first 3 before heading for the tredmill. This was one of the few times ive been able to get rolling on a tredmill. Felt very smooth but the room was like a sauna since basically the whole distance squad went in there.
tuesday 5/1
Very long day for me. First within the last mile to school i thought that one of my tires might be losing pressure. After school, sure enough… there was a screw through my tire. Had a difficult time getting it off, it was some good team building though, matt gibson helped with getting a couple bolts off. Josh smith, our monster thrower couldnt get the last one off so i knew there was a problem. We decided to go inside since we couldnt get it off and it had been pouring rain the whole time. half an hour later when the rain stopped, Coach White came out and took it off pretty quickly. I kinda felt dumb but then put on the spare. I wanted to get it changed right away so i got permission to get the tire patched. I didnt think i would be at sullivan tire for over 2 hours. I decided an hour in that i might as well get my workout in. I ran down US 36 to the middle school track, which got some angry drivers. 8×200 with a minute rest where i hit 28 on most. After i ran back and waited some more i headed off to band practice late where i explained what happened to my director which got a pretty good laugh out of him. All in a good day’s work..
wednesday 5/2
very hot and humid, went 4.5 running before 10 minutes on the bike. Quads were sore from the day before and wouldnt loosen up the whole run. There was a freshman frenzy basketball tournament, and i was the coach of the group of kids that i work with. They did an amazing job making it all the way to the championship before losing by 3.. Im sure everyone enjoyed my running shorts. Another late night and didnt get home until 9:30 again
thursday 5/3
home duel meet against county rivals brownsburg. I also signed today with marian university after school, very glad to have finally chosen. Junior year you’ll probably get antsy with wanting to talk to coaches, but senior year, when you’re playing phone tag, and talking on the phone for hours a night with different people multiple times a week, it does get monotonous, but i learned to always keep as many doors cracked open for various reasons. It was definitely worth it and im thankful for every phone call, email, and letter i received. Back to the meet.. our 4×8 all went fresh in the 800 and it sure was fun. We all packed together, going through around 57 and tried kicking at different points, conner took off with 300 to go, which made me go around 260, We both passed Calvin, but with 120 left he passed me back. Conner-1:56 Calvin-1:57 Me- 1-58 Spencer- 159. With how the weather was, i was impressed with how well we all did. Now we just need to put it all together and really turn some heads.
Friday 5/4
2 up and 2 down with fly 80′s, got my packet for the mini, might as well get my shirt and hat since i paid 70 dollars and couldnt run because of band. I wasnt going to race, i just wanted to get the experience of that many people running at one time.
Saturday 5/6
I was at the high school at 7am for wind ensemble since we were the 3rd band to go on at state finals, which would hurt our chance at winning. LC’s stage is pretty nice btw, This helped my schedule though as we got back to the school at 11 and i got to get in a longer run of 8, so i could take a nap before Brownsburg’s prom. I picked my girlfriend up and showed up at my best friends fashionably late, during the middle of dinner. I may or may not have taken a pink limo to prom… Good night until after everyone left my friends house i learned that someone stole $100 out of my wallet while i was swimming. Lesson learned, Also i was bombarded by texts that we had won state, which i could hardly believe since we have never won before and a band has never gone on that early and won state. Good day
Sunday 5/7
Much needed recovery day at taylor’s.. we just moped around his house and then went swimming again. I think it was definitely a good idea that i skipped out on the 4 hour calculus review in lue of the exam coming up wednesday.
Long week for me equals a long blog for you haha. Next weeks blog should be more on my actual running, hit up the message board!!
