Week of 5/21/12

Well for this week’s blog, I was just going to reflect on Regionals. Last week was a very eventful week with Sectionals and we had our school prom! I ran about 37 miles last week. Good luck to all the boys at Regionals tomorrow and awesome job to everyone who qualified for state!

Chesterton Regional 5/22/12: I was super excited to run the 3200 at Regionals. I wasn’t too nervous, I know some people get really nervous and that’s all they worry about all day long. I love big races and I just try to get excited, the nerves usually hit once I arrive at the meet. I didn’t run the 1600 today, I missed running it, but that’s ok! I ran a 10 minute warm up around the school and tried to think about my race. Afterwards, I went to stretch and do a few plyos. Then, it was finally race time! The race started out a bit packed, but that’s usually how it is at big meets. I just tried to make my way to the front. The race started out a bit too slow, so I tried to pick up the pace a bit. I had time goals I was trying to hit, but I was a little off of them. I started to pull away at the 600 and keep going the last lap. When you’re in the final stretch, you can typically tell if someone is close to catching you or not, but I really didn’t hear any frantic screaming. I just noticed my friend Katelyn out of the corner of my eye and I went with her. We had a very close finish, but she won by .02! Great job to Katelyn; she’s such a tough runner and always gives it her all! I am so lucky to be able to have raced with her for the past two years. Overall, the race was a good one! I didn’t hit my goal time, but I am super excited and ready to go for state! Awesome job to all the girls who worked so hard this track season!

“Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it’s all about.”
