Caleb Kerr Training Blog 5/17/12 – SIAC Meet
Another solid weekend of racing. This week was the SIAC Meet again at Central Stadium. Cool temps and low winds gave perfect conditions for some fast times in the distance events. The 3200 was again the highlight of Thursday night. Tyler and I opened fast in a 4:33 mile, then the race began. I surged several times trying to get around him on the straightaways, but Tyler would surge with me and deny me from making the pass. I finally got around him on lap 6 with a 66 second split, but that pretty much took everything out of me and I couldn’t gap Tyler once I got to the front. Tyler re-passed me on lap 7, then I closed the gap back up and took the lead again at the gun lap. The lead was short lived, however, Tyler blew past me on the curve and ran away from there. His closing speed is just scary. I still finished with a solid 9:15 PR though so I was pretty happy. The next day was a bizarre 1600. Tyler and I opened in 66 – which felt like walking, then Tyler heard the time and blazed a 62 the next lap. Then, for some reason he slowed back down and I almost ran over him on the backstretch before he kicked again and pulled away. I finished in a 4:19 which matched my PR and broke the conference record. Unfortunately that record was broken 6 seconds beforehand… I later ran the 800 as a workout in 2:03, which Tyler also won (I’m pretty sure the government took him this winter and turned him into a robot that doesn’t feel pain). Anyway, I think I’m in good position going into the state tournament and plan to run the 4×8 and 3200 Thursday. My goals are a sectional record in the 4×8 (8:10) and another sub-9:20 3200.
