College Coverage on IR? Thursday, December 17, 2009
Stephen Bain
One of my goals that I have been lacking on is getting more college coverage onto the website. Well, I finally completed one article with an inside look at a collegiate team. This happens to be in my own backyard, but I recommend reading it to get an inside talk with a great coach for a small, private D1 team at Butler University
More Coverage of Indiana's Elite Wednesday, December 16, 2009
Stephen Bain
Tyler Byrne shares his footlocker experience and replies to the questions you posted on the message board for him. Tyler is a class act and has been generous to offer his time for this, and I recommend for any athlete to read this and share his experience with him.
Chris Walden will be finishing up his piece after he finishes his studies, as many of us are at this time. This will include his training and how he may have pulled off yet another "clutch" race.

Tyler Byrne and David Osborn
Wednesday, December 9, 2009
Stephen Bain
We have been lucky to have all of the Indiana athletes be willing to share their experiences with IndianaRunner.com. Obviously, if you have been following the coverage we have been lacking two individuals up to this point.
First, Tyler Byrne will share his experiences from the state meet up until today. He takes you inside his qualifying races and his NXN race. He gives you a look at how he feels about his chances at Footlocker as well. Every word is written by him.
Next will be a nice story on David Osborn. He has had a tremendous post-season winning the All-Star Meet and then qualifying for NXN. Not only that but he has verbally committed to the NCAA Champion Oklahoma State University Cowboys. He shares some of his thoughts on what it will be like to run with running phenoms Colby Lowe and German Fernandez along with the process he has gone through.

Waverly Neer has also continued to answer questions and share her experiences. She competed at the NXN finals today and represented Indiana very well. Look forward to her post-race thoughts.

Footlocker Week Tuesday, November 24, 2009
Stephen Bain
The Footlocker Regional Meet will be this Saturday up in the tundra of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Expect immediate highlight updates on the Twitter Page. The final NXN Meets will be going around the country and then the at-large bids will be announced. Continue to cheer for the Indiana teams to get one of those bids. Speaking of Indiana, the boys of Indiana dominated at the All-Star meet while the girls also put on an impressive run to be runner ups. The Mideast All-Star meet continues to grow. Who said the Cross Country season ends on October 31st?
Nike Regionals Live Updates
Sunday, November 15, 2009
Colin Altevogt
What a great sports weekend in Indiana! The Nike Midwest Regional has been postponed to the same day as the Colts-Patriots showdown, but that delay certainly won't stop our coverage from Terre Haute. Follow our Twitter Page for live updates of this postseason race. On the boys side, undefeated Columbus North will put its perfection on the line against some of the best in the country's heartland, including three star-studded teams from Illinois. Also in attendance will be runner-up Chesterton and perennial power Carmel. On the girls side, the champs will also be in attendance as Columbus North and runner-up Carmel meet again, among others.

Calm Before the Storm
Friday, October 30, 2009
Stephen Bain
Currently the message board is down for unknown reasons. I am working on fixing that. However, I would like to let everybody know who cannot make it to Terre Haute that I will be posting results on our twitter. You can find a live feed down at the bottom of this page and/or at our Twitter Page.
State Finals Previews
Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Colin Altevogt
As the highly anticipated state finals on October 31 near, our coordinators have been at work on their state finals, including full team and top 25 individuals. Who does our staff tab as the teams and individuals to beat? Check out the Girls State Finals Preview and the Boys State Finals Preview to find out. Have opinions and predictions of your own? Make sure to visit the Message Board which figures to be busy all week.
Also enjoy this small school semi state wrap up following the great stories behind some small schools qualifying for the State Finals.
State Week begins with FCC
Sunday, October 25, 2009
Stephen Bain
Our state meet week begins with the semi state team coverage from the FCC teams. the top 2 teams from each semi state advanced plus 2 at large teams. Check out the results and see if you're in! Expect State Meet Previews to be on their way within the following days.
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
Stephen Bain
The week of semi states is probably my favorite week of the year. Our state has been trimmed down to 80 teams on each side, and many are dealing with different approaches into this week. With that, we have A LOT of articles we are throwing at you this week as teams finish fighting for their trip to Terre Haute.
Small School Regional Wrap Up - Coach Robert Swank
New Prairie Girls SS Preview - Katie Cahillane
New Prairie Boys SS Preview - Coach Louie Guillen
New Haven Girls SS Preview - Mike Slaubaugh

The staff has done a great job this year, and this is the big "wrap up project". I hope everybody is able to extend their thanks to their respective representative for the time they put into your semi state section, whether you alwasy agreed or not. Good luck to all of the teams!

Regionals in the AM
Friday, October 16, 2009
Stephen Bain
While the regionals are in the A.M., I have been slacking this week and thus am trying to get some new news up here for you that is long over-due. First off, there is a small school sectional wrap up, which gives some great credit to some of the top small schools in the state! Next, are the sectional FCC results... the season is about to really get going! Lastly, we are now selling shirts for $20... it's a great deal as they are Nike Dri Fit Long Sleeves (think $35 maybe in a retail store). You can see the design on the message board here! Good luck to all of the teams in Indiana tomorrow morning!
Let the Tournament Begin
Monday, October 12, 2009
Stephen Bain
First I present to you the final edition of this year's state rankings. I hope you have enjoyed them whether you agreed or disagreed with them through the majority of the year. We at IR want to wish everybody a healthy and successful tournament season as the sectional meets kick off this Tuesday followed by the regional on Saturday. Avoid the H1N1, as many top level teams have been infected. Semi State rankings (Boys and Girls) and the Small School Poll will be coming out Tuesday as usual for the last time before the big previews, and plenty of predictions will be being posted in the messageboard. Let's end a great season of Indiana HS Cross Country in a great way this October!
October is upon us...
Monday, October 5, 2009
Stephen Bain
The air has finally changed from warm to cool, and the real fast racing is about to begin. As our final weeks of rankings come upon us, we see how the tournament MIGHT look as we go into it. There are still plenty of weeks left for changes to occur, and that is shown as there is a new #1 girls team as Carmel reclaims reign of the state rankings. Noblesville has crossed paths with bad luck but will look to rebound soon. The semi state rankings (Boys and Girls) should be shaping up nicely as teams begin their speed work to come into true form. Lastly, this is the second to last time to see the Small School Polls.
Mid-Season All State Announced!
Friday, October 2, 2009
Stephen Bain
While there are still many weeks left until the State Meet, Colin and I are releasing our "Mid-season Allstate Line ups". This is a continuation from our preseason line ups and just gives you an idea of who to watch as we enter the tournament season. We both are aware that a lot of people can move up or down some spots. But we hope you enjoy havin one more thing to read as championship season comes our way!
Conference Time
Thursday, October 1, 2009
Colin Altevogt
The weather cools down as the racing gets ready to heat up. We have a week of conference and county meets, including double duty for some of the state's best, upcoming. This weekend we've chosen the Marion County Championships as the Boys Meet of the Week and the Hoosier Crossroads Conference as the Girls Meet of the Week. Both have a plethora of potential state finalist teams, including a couple state championship contenders.
Monday, September 28, 2009
Stephen Bain
Now the first round of championships come into play as most conference races will be going on this week! After a great regular season, we have a lot of questions to answer throughout the tournament. In the state rankings, the girl's rankings has a new #1 while the boy's had some shake ups throughout the entire poll but Columbus North continues to pull away. Expect the usual write ups this week as Colin and I try to find our meets of the week in a scattered, yet stacked, weekend. Also the Semi State (Boys and Girls) and Small School Polls should help give a clearer picture as we near the end. Expect our "Midseason" All-State line up as well in the near future.
Crazy Culver Weekend
Thursday, September 24, 2009
Colin Altevogt
It's the last week of the invitationals before conference meet action and the tournament start. The schedule saves the best for last as as ten ranked boys teams and 15 ranked girls teams, including number ones Columbus North and Carmel, will be in action at the Culver Invitational weekend. Predictably enough, the invite has been named our Meet of the Week for both Boys and Girls.
Half Way
Monday, September 21, 2009
Stephen Bain
We are half way through our season now as teams begin to tune up and throw down some fast times before entering the tournament. Our new State Rankings are up, and you can expect a great preview of the Culver Invitational soon. As always, our semi state rankings (Boys and Girls) will help give you a deeper look at who will make the state meet. Also just got the Small School Polls up!
Stories and Write ups Galore
Monday, September 16, 2009
Stephen Bain
Have you heard of the biggest surprise invididual (according to many) this year? Read this interview with Guerin Catholic's sophomore sensation Kent Garrett talking about his great Boulder Colorado camp experience. Also, not only will we be on double duty for Meet of the week write ups, but we are also doing a Small School Meet Write up for the New Prairie Invitational by our small school specialist Coach Swank!
Meet of the Week Previews!

New Prairie and Flashrock Week
Monday, September 14, 2009
Stephen Bain
State rankings are up. The girl's poll had very little movement throughout things, and the boys had a little shifting. With the big NP/Flashrock week upon us, things begin to take form for what we can really expect from teams this season. Make sure you pay attention to your semi state rankings (Boys and Girls) as well as the heated Small School Polls. Expect Boys and Girls Meet of the week previews to be double the fun this week as we will look at both major races since we simply could not choose just one!
Big Showdowns in the South
Thursday, September 10, 2009
Colin Altevogt
After last week's surprising results at the Artesian Classic and State Preview meets, Columbus North heads west and Terre Haute North heads south to decide the current top boys team in Indiana at the Brown County's Eagle Classic in the Boys Meet of the Week. Last weekend, Columbus North upended then No. 1 and consensus state championship favorite North Central while Terre Haute North downed No. 2 Huntington North and No. 3 Carmel on the state finals course. In the Girls Meet of the Week, a handful of potential podium teams square off, including freshman-laden Terre Haute North and hungry Columbus North, who missed medals by just five points in 2008.
Hard Work on Labor Day
Monday, September 7, 2009
Stephen Bain
So much for having the day off on Labor Day. Instead we had one of the hardest days ever when it came to the new State Rankings on both sides. The Semi State Rankings (Boys and Girls) will surely prove to be a lot of work as well. The season is starting to heat up, and our visitor numbers are at an all new high to show it. Don't forget the one place to check out the Small/Medium School Poll. Continue to tune in for the best coverage of High School Indiana Cross Country Action! Also, after some slacking (by me) on getting new Coach's Corner information back up, we are back at it!
Meets of the Week
Thursday, September 3, 2009
Colin Altevogt
Both the boys and the girls meets of the week will take place on the Lavern Gibson course in Terre Haute this week at the State Preview. The Boys Meet of the Week will feature teams ranked second, third and fourth in the state. The Girls Meet of the Week pits top-ranked Carmel against perhaps its most serious contender for the title in No. 3 Fort Wayne Carroll.
Apologies
Tuesday, September 1, 2009
Stephen Bain
Sorry about the delay on getting the Boys and Girls Semi State rankings up, as well as the Small/Medium School Polls. Adding more Pictures to the site as well. Meet Previews coming Thursday!

New Semi State (Boys, Girls) and Small/Medium School Rankings have been posted for the first of the 2009 season! You can expect future additions in the Coach's Corner as well as Indiana Runner's Preseason All State line ups!
Updates
Monday, August 3, 2009
Stephen Bain
New Coach's Corner additions to help kick off the regular season! Next week we will begin running on our HOPEFUL "regular" schedule of:
Monday - New State Rankings
Tuesday - New SS Rankings/Small School Rankings
It looks like we will be removing the Athlete of the Week feature due to a lack of interest.
Saturday, August 1, 2009
Colin Altevogt
As our Preseason Top 50s (Boys and Girls) conclude this weekend and the official season starts Monday, Indiana Runner has much more in store for you soon. These plans over the next two weeks include unveiling our Indiana Runner Preseason All-State teams of 25 individual runners as well as preseason semistate rankings and new statewide rankings.
Indiana Runner's Fantasy Cross Country
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
Stephen Bain
Indiana Runner will be hosting the second annual Fantasy Cross Country league. With a LIVE draft, this season should be even more entertaining than the last. The field of participants is currently set, but if you are interested in joining feel free to email in your FULL name, Username, and school that you are affiliated with (and how). Check the FCC page for the latest updates!
