Hello again, Indiana Runner fans.  First I would like to apologize again for my inconsistency with my training blog. If I was at a job in the real world, I would probably get fired, so I definitely need to step my game up. Congratulations to all of you who were fortunate enough to qualify for the state meet. But to those of you that didn’t, I hope that you had the best season that you possibly could have, and have no regrets. A great season should not solely be defined by winning or qualifying for the state meet. Instead it should hinge upon whether you became a better runner, and more importantly, a better person.  Putting the philosophy aside, my training the last two weeks has been up and down, to say the least.  I was feeling really good, and the training was starting to pick up well, but then this past weekend I could hardly move my leg and knee. It turns out I bruised my patella, and it just hurts to move. But here is what the last two weeks have looked like:

Friday, October 14: 3, 2, 1 fartlek with 1 minute jog times 4. Felt pretty good today, a lot better than yesterday. We were probably going about 5:50 pace on the up-tempos and about 7 pace on the jogs. It felt like only the 3 minute sections were the tough ones, the others were really easy. Overall I'm pretty happy with the workout today. Pretty Windy. 6 wu/cd ; 5 workout; 11.5 Miles Total

Saturday, October 15: Really slow grass loops. Shins a little sore today. And did I mention that I ran really slow today? 4.25 miles in 30:28 (7:10 pace)

Sunday, October 16: Ran out to the warner loop with a lot of the freshmen. We started out pretty slow, but then picked up the pace pretty well. I got in about 20 minutes of up-tempo with 3 strides on the turf. Felt really good today. 11.25 miles in 1:13:34 (6:32 pace) 30 minute cross train on the bike

WEEKLY MILEAGE: 55

Monday, October 17: Ran slow today, just for you, Polk. 3 barefoot strides on the football field. Felt good today; no ibuprofen, no calf sleeves, no problem. 9.5 miles in 1:05 (6:50 pace)

Tuesday, October 18: 25 minute tempo out on warner. I went at the same time as all the top guys, so that's why it was probably a little faster than usual. I'm not 100% sure on the splits, but the first mile was 5:36 and I was at 21:56 at the 4 mile. I got stomped by the top guys, but I was really strong throughout and was actually picking up on some of the guys who were not as strong. I feel very satisfied with this workout, and I’m positive that there will be a lot more good ones to come. Wu/cd 6.5; tempo 4.5; total 11; 30 minute AM cross train

Wednesday, October 19: Day off

Thursday, October 20: Ran around campus with Lucas Roscoe, Brian Lucas and Dan Lucas. Yeah, I was the odd one out, as my name is not Lucas. 10 miles in 1:07:13 (6:43 pace)

Friday, October 21: Since I've worked out pretty hard the last couple of times, today's was a little "easier" than usual. It was a progression run, starting slow then going progressively faster for about 5 miles. I started out at about 630 pace, then I really just kept cutting down from there. I think i closed in something about 520, as I was in pretty good stride and was breathing pretty hard. I got 32:00 minutes of uptempo in between a 26 minute "warm-up" and 27 minute "cool-down". I just rolled into each part. I just went straight out on warner, after i went the wrong way for like 5 minutes and had to turn around; I didn’t want to run the square haha. 13 miles in 1:26:05 (6:37 pace)

Saturday, October 22: I ran pretty slow again today. My knee started hurting at the end of the run. 5 miles in 36:42 (7:20 pace)

Sunday, October 23: Long run in the morning.  Started out pretty slow then fell into a solid pace for the second half. My form felt really good today, like I was really fluid and efficient when I was running. I've improved on that a lot since I’ve been up here. My knee was still really hurting, it feels like I bruised it right where it needs to rotate, which makes doing any movement hurt quite a bit. 12.5 miles 1:26:02 (6:52 pace)

WEEKLY MILEAGE: 61

Monday, October 24: Felt terrible. My knee really hurts. I went to the trainers and they didn't tell me much, but I still think it's a bruise. Just in a really really really terrible spot, right on the kneecap. 8 miles in 54:05 (6:45 pace)

Tuesday, October 25: I went to the rec center to get my AM cross train in, and I couldn’t even bike because my knee hurt so bad. I only got 15 minutes in, and they were not quality minutes. Told the coaches about my knee, and I’ll be taking a couple of days off to try to heal it up. Hopefully it heals soon, because I don’t want or need to miss any more time.

Wednesday, October 26: Off day to rest

Thursday, October 27: Felt a little better today. I’ve been icing the crap out of my knee as well as going to the training room every day to get stim therapy, so I’m doing what I can to get back fast. I was able to ride the bike today. 45 minute bike

So that is how the last two weeks have gone. I’m pretty upset about my knee, because I was just starting to come around into shape and now I have to take time off; and also because I feel like a big baby for not running because of a bruise. I’m sure that I’ll be back soon, but I’m not a big fan of this little hiccup in my training. We have some time trials coming up in the next two weeks, so hopefully I will be back and able to run those at full strength. Well that’s all I have this time, but if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post!!!

Hello again, Indiana Runner fans! I hope that the tournament season is treating you all well, and hopefully your team is still proceeding into the later stages. Training for me is still going pretty well. I am up to 55 miles a week now, and I have started to do workouts. Fortunately, I am lucky enough to be able to get fit pretty quickly, so I don’t feel like I am too out of shape at this point in time, and I can get to running fast again soon. Well there’s a brief introduction, and here’s what the last week looked like:

Thursday, October 6:  Running: 8 miles in 54:12 (6:46 pace) Cross Training: 30 minutes

Ran the Warner loop today with Chad, Casey, Greg, Meston and Spencer. We were going a pretty good pace for most of it, and we all felt pretty good. Then we went back to the football field to get some barefoot in. I did 4 minutes of barefoot today. Movin' up in the world.

Again, this is me barefoot. Taken just before I put my

prom dress on and got my groove on last year.

Friday, October 7: Running: 2 minutes at tempo pace with 1 minute jog in between, 8 times. (Total of 16 minutes at tempo pace and 8 minutes of jog) Warm up and Cool down 5.75 miles- total of 9.5 miles

Second workout today! Got a little excited at the beginning and kind of sprinted them out at the beginning, but I settled down and had a strong workout. The workout felt pretty easy. I feel like I’m getting back into shape quickly. Also my team, the St. Louis Cardinals, did some serious Philtering to the playoff picture, knocking the Phillies out of the playoffs. Color me excited!! Go redbirds!

Saturday, October 8: 9 miles in 1:00:1 (6:40 pace)

Went solo on the runnin’ today. Saturdays up here are on your own, and I slept too late to run with a group. But it’s no big deal. I had a few more miles to do today than most other people, as I was a little low on miles from earlier in the week.

Sunday, October 9: Running: 11.2 miles in 1:16:05 (6:47 pace) Cross Training: 30 minutes

Long run today. I upped the mileage to 11 on this, so it’s really good that I get to deliver oxygen for a little longer. The longer long run will definitely help my training in the future.

Monday, October 10: 9 miles in 1 hour (6:40 pace)

Ran to the red barn trails (the trails that are like a cross country course near campus) with a lot of the other freshman guys. Pretty good run. Also, my roommates and I had some spoiled milk sitting in our fridge for like 2 weeks. We finally disposed of that tonight in an exciting way. Let’s just say it went something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7TNblyg3Ds

Tuesday, October 11: 20 minute tempo run, warm up and cool down- total of 11 miles in 70 minutes (6:22 pace)

Felt really good on the tempo. I ran with Nord and two of the top freshman guys. Polk, if you’re reading this, my bad. I felt pretty good and just started rolling; we were going about 5:40 pace. It felt pretty light though; the four of us had a nice conversation going the whole time. It felt good to run faster, and I feel like I am actually starting to get fit.

Wednesday, October 12: Took the day off. I did, however, take a field trip to the local gypsum mine. Here is what my shoes looked like when I walked out with my geology class:

Thursday, October 13: 8 miles in 54:46 (6:43 pace)

Just 8 miles around campus. My left shin was kind of hurting after the workout on Tuesday, so I’ll have to be a little more careful. I also really need new shoes.

That’s what the last week looks like. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how things are going. I won’t race until indoor track, which kind of sucks being so far away and all, but I know that this patience will pay off in the long run, no pun intended. But if you have any questions, comments, or reactions, feel free to post!!!

10/6/2011

Hello again, IndianaRunner fans. I apologize for not getting an entry in last week; I just didn’t get it done. As you can imagine, the schoolwork has definitely picked up and we are in the full swing of school up here. I am really happy with the progression of my training. It really feels like each day I’m starting to get a little bit better each day. It’s always great to get that feeling back, and feel motivated to go out each day with the intent to get a lot better. I will try not to be too wordy, as Polonius said in Hamlet, “…brevity is the soul of wit.”

Friday, September 23: Running: 8 miles in 55:03 (6:52 pace) Cross Train: 30 minutes

Ran out on the dirt roads today. Felt pretty good and maintained better form. I also got a ton of crap from the team because earlier in the day I walked 1.5 miles each way to buy Reese’s Puffs. I just had an unbelievable craving for the “peanut butta-chocolate flavaaaaa!!”

Saturday, September 24:Running: 3 miles in 19:42 (6:34 pace)

I had a couple of miles left that I needed to get in, so I got them in while I was waiting for my Papa John’s pizza. The run was good, but the pizza definitely could have used more sauce…

Sunday, September 25: Running: 10 miles in 1:06:32 (6:39 pace)

Ran on the Warner dirt road loop today with a couple guys on the team but also with Dave Powell and Christopher Kelsey, who were up on official visits today. It was nice to see and run with them again, as it had been quite a while.

WEEKLY TOTAL: 50 MILES

Monday, September 26: Running: 8 miles in 53:54 (6:44 pace)

Didn’t really feel good today until about the last 10-12 minutes when I got onto the football field. Then I opened up my stride a little bit and felt pretty good. Also did a few minutes of barefoot running. Grand Valley is a big proponent of barefoot running and strides, as it builds/strengthens the lower leg muscles.

Tuesday, September 27: 8 miles in 55:24 (6:55 pace)

Ran with Nord today the whole time. On the way back it started pouring down rain, so hard that it actually hurt my bare chest a little bit. But I love it! Cross country at its finest!! And when it’s too rainy for everyone else, it’s just right for us.

Wednesday, September 28: Cross Training: 45 minutes

Cross trained in between classes. I feel like I should have done a workout, but I didn’t. I’m really pretty disappointed with my cross training, as you can clearly see, I haven’t been doing much of it. Not good.

Thursday, September 29: Running: 8 miles in 53:12 (6:39 pace)

Ran on the awesome red barn trails with a lot of the other freshman guys. We started out slow and then picked it up, with about 3 miles of sub 6:15.

Friday, September 30:Running: 8 miles in 54:36 (6:49 pace); AM, Cross Training: 30 minutes

The rest of the team was doing a workout at 6 AM, so I just ran at the same time. This was to give the people who were not racing in the Notre Dame Invite a chance to go and watch. But I just got a regular run in with Nord, who is also coming back from being hurt. Solid run, but it was very windy.

Saturday, October 1: 8 miles in 51:37 (6:27 pace)

Ran by myself out at the red barn trails, which are like a hidden cross country course about a mile and a half away from school. Almost crushed the crap out of a couple snakes out there. I think that’s a sign that the Diamondbacks are going to get smashed in the playoffs….

Sunday, October 2:Running: 10 miles in 64:51 (6:29 pace)

Felt really good today. My group and I maintained a strong pace, and eventually picked it up nicely for about 10 minutes at about the 50 minute mark. Sure, they had a few more miles to go than I did, but I was pretty happy. Lift and core as well today.

Monday, October 3: Running: 8 miles in 53:28 (6:41 pace) Cross Training: 30 minutes

Started with the freshman group, but since they were doing more miles than me I had to turn back early. Aerobically, that was probably better for me, as we were going kind of slow, and I really picked up the pace once I got by myself. I actually almost caught up to the top guys, which was unexpected. Then when I was cross training, I was going to cut a little short and do 25 minutes, but then I saw one of the girls on the team doing like 1,000 crunches, so I figured I could tough out 5 more minutes. I don’t plan on cutting short ever again.

Tuesday, October 4: AM Cross Train: 30 minutes, Running: 10x1 minute hard, 1 minute “jog” in between This was the first workout of my college career! It was really pretty easy, as I was told to make sure that I stayed under control and not try to go out and really crank it. It took a lot for me to hold myself back, but I just tried to focus on maintaining good form throughout. Got in 9.25 miles for the day.

Wednesday, October 5: Took the day completely off today. I had a couple of papers that I had to do and that were due today, so a lot of my time was spent on getting those done.

That’s the way the last two weeks have shaped up. I hit 50 miles the last two weeks, and this week I am planning on 55. I’m really excited to keep building miles and getting back into shape. I am just really eager to feel like I am getting and that I can be good again. It has really been a long time for me since I’ve felt that way. On top of building miles, I am also really trying to improve on doing the “little things”. I stretch more, roll out my calves more, use resistance bands more, focus more on form drills, ice twice a day, and also eat better foods. I really think that all of these things will help keep me healthy. And if I’m healthy, I’m confident I can get fairly good at this running thing. Well, that about raps it up. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post!!!

What’s going on Indiana Runner fans? First things first, good luck to everyone this weekend, as most runners will be celebrating their training efforts with big, competitive races. I wish you all the best! My training has been going pretty well up north, as I feel like I’m getting back into shape nicely and improving on a lot of the “little things” that are important to being a successful runner. I’ve really been focused on my form lately, both arms and legs. In the past like 7 months I had somehow developed a wicked heel strike, so I’ve minimized that quite a bit, as well as cut down on my pronation.  I (as well as a lot of my teammates) have also been using resistance bands for stretching. This type of stretching really helps the muscles become more “explosive” or have a lot more pop to them.  Also, I think I mentioned this last week, I am continuing to roll out my calves to attempt to cut down on the knots and shin splints. All of these things, plus taking my iron and vitamin C supplements, will hopefully add up and keep me healthy and make a big difference in my running. But here is kind of the abridged version of the last week, as I feel like I’ve been excessively wordy in my other posts, and as if no one is reading them:

Friday, September 16: Running: 7.5 miles in 49:12 (6:34 pace) Cross Training: 30 min. elliptical

Ran at Michigan State course today for our meet. Threw in 2 sub-6:00 miles. Team ran great today, as we beat Michigan State 53-56 in the invitational.

Saturday, September 17: Running: 7 miles in 48:05 (6:52 pace) Cross Training: None

Ran on the campus trails with Chad Cini, another freshman on the team. We were kinda chillin’ at the beginning, but picked it up pretty well at the end. Ran up at least 5 huge hills.

Sunday, September 18: Running: 9.25 miles in 60:00 (6:29 pace) Cross Training: 40 minute elliptical

Today was long run day for most of the guys, so it’s usually a pretty good run. Today we were told to get a few minutes of uptempo in as well. A lot of the guys were mad at me and Kyle LeMieux for picking up the pace way too early, and supposedly we were going 6 pace, but I’m not in good enough shape to do that ;). I was happy, because I didn’t have much run left after we picked it up for 25 minutes or so, but those guys still had about 50 minutes to go. Haha but they got over it…

Monday, September 19: Running: 5 miles in 32:41 (6:32 pace) Cross Training: 40 minute elliptical

My shins really hurt today, about a 6 on a 1-10 scale. Shin splints just flared up today, I guess. And I didn’t even feel good cross training. Just not my day, it seems, but I’m sure tomorrow will be better.

Tuesday, September 20: Running: 9 miles in 60:20 (6:42 pace) Cross Training: AM 30 min elliptical

Today was definitely better. I ran on the dirt roads fairly close to campus. I really focused on good form today, and I actually felt lights out perfect. Like my foot plant was nice, I didn’t feel overly bouncy, my arms were straight without any flailing; I just felt good. Picked up the pace for about 25 minutes, probably was going 6:0x pace.

Wednesday, September 21: Running: 7 miles in 46:44 (6:41 pace) Cross Training: No time today!

Ran 7 on the trails in between classes, just kind of chilling. Nothing too special today.

Thursday, September 22: Running: 8 miles in 55:04 (6:52 pace) Cross Training: AM 30 min elliptical

Ran with most of the top guys today, so we got a fairly good run in around the trails near campus. Solid run where we picked up the pace throughout. Felt really good today.

So that’s about it for this week’s edition. I hope that this one was a little easier on the eyes to read. But if you guys would like more info on anything or have questions/comments, just feel free to post!

Tim

Hello again, Indiana Runner fans! I hope all is well with training and racing, as it is about the point now where the season really takes off.  Not too much longer and it will already be tournament time for a lot of you!!  Training up here has been really good, I’m getting to do more and more and I’m actually starting to feel somewhat happier with my training. I hit 40 miles last week, and I feel like I’m almost getting in running shape again. I’ve definitely been eager to start getting workouts in, but I’ve done a really good job at staying patient (which is soooo hard for me as I’m sometimes overly competitive), so I just need to finish out the recovery process. The plan is for this week (which you will see part of) to get 45 miles, then next week 50. And Coach Baltes told me today that in about a week and a half I will get to start doing more workout-type stuff, more specifically stuff like one minute hard followed by one minute easy. So that’s kind of a quick recap and a preview for the next couple of weeks. But here is exactly what the tail end of last week and the first part of this week looks like:

Thursday, September 8: Didn't feel great today. I didn’t feel bad, just a little below average. My calves were super tight today, and that impacted it a little bit. I went to the trainer's room after and got my calves rolled out. Apparently I have a huge knot in my right calf, so that is probably contributing to the shin splint problems I've been having. Of course, got in the ice tub again. Just a 30 minute elliptical session in the morning, heart rate hovered at 140. 6 miles in 40:11

Friday, September 9: Ran around campus today. Felt pretty good. My claves were still tight, and sore from getting them rolled yestereday, but it didnt cause any pain when I was running. I feel like i'm not in terrible shape, but im not in great shape either. I feel like I could run decently fast, but I'm definitely eager to start getting up to a level where i can do some workouts. Again, got my calves rolled to try to get the knots out and got in the ice tub. 6.5 miles in 45 minutes. 45 minutes on the elliptical, started easy then picked it up for some up tempo. Average heart rate was around 145.

Saturday, September 10: Today was the first race for most of the GV team. I was pretty excited to see all of my new friends and teammates race! I really wish I was out there, but I know I’ll get my chance. Today I ran with the top guys on the team who weren’t racing. We started really slow but then picked it up. 6.5 miles in 45:08. Cross training I got in a solid hour on my elliptical.

Sunday, September, 11: Ran with a huge group today. Started out pretty easy on this one, as we were probably just a shade under 7, but we picked it up pretty nicely for over half of my portion of the run. We split of into two groups, and we continued picking up the pace. For the second half I was probably around 620 or so. Felt good, especially because i didnt get a really good ice in yesterday. 7.25 Miles in 48:06. 30 minutes on the elliptical, heart rate around 120. Easy

Monday, September 12: Ran with about half of the other freshman guys today. We did part of a campus loop and then got in some trails. We started out really slow, and then picked it up as we went. I felt really good, as if nothing was ever wrong with me. At the end I got in about a minute or so of barefoot running. Going to be getting more of that in. 7.25 miles in 48:47. Cross training 40 minute session. Went a little harder than most other days, but still was very relaxed. Was really going fast at the end. Heart Rate around 150.

This is me barefoot

Tuesday, September 13: Started with a morning lift and core session, then went to cross train. Got in a 30 minute session, with my heart rate eclipsing the 130 barrier. Running in the afternoon I felt like absolute crap. Wasn’t my best decision to throw down some delicious triple chocolate cherry cookies 15 minutes before I run, so that made for a long run. 6 miles in 40:02. Then I got on the elliptical when I got back, and did a 45 minute session with 20 of that being uptempo. Got the old heart rate around 170.                                                                             But they were most certainly delicious

Wednesday, September 14: Today I took the day off of running, as I had a 10 day CD, and I was yet to have one that long. SO I made sure to get a good cross train in. 1 hr with the heart rate at 140 and higher

Thursday, September 15: Again, I started today off with the 6:30 AM lift and core. We worked with some resistance bands today, and I think I will be doing more of that in the future.  Then all of the elliptical machines were ocupados, so I had to hit up the bike. Still got a good 26 minutes in. Then for the run we had a goof off run today. We ran a little too slow, were in places that we probably shouldn’t have been, you know, the usual stuff. 7 miles in 49:39, 3 minutes barefoot. Then I got on the elliptical to get a flat hour of cross training for the day, so I did 34 minutes in the PM.

Well that’s what last week looked like. I feel pretty good, and I’m extremely ready to get fit. I’m excited to start doing some workouts in the coming weeks and hoping to get continual and consistent training in. I think I can really have a lot of success here as long as I stay healthy, and I think that I’m doing a lot of things right recovery and health wise to make sure that happens. If you want to know more about what I’m doing to recover or anything else, just post or contact me somehow. I’m open to any and all questions. If you’re following Grand Valley Cross Country, we are traveling to East Lansing to take on our in-state rivals Michigan State amongst others at the Spartan Invite on Friday, September 16! And good luck to all of you Indiana racers. This is one of the biggest racing weekends of the year, enjoy it, and run fast!!!!!

How’s it going IR fans? I hope that training, and now racing, is going well for all of you. Training is definitely looking better for me, as now I am actually at a point where I’m going to put a weekly total mileage on my posts. Kinda crazy, I know, but I’m actually coming along training-wise, and my legs haven’t snapped. Classes have been going very well too, as I feel like I’m finally getting adjusted to the whole college class and practice schedule. I do feel like I’m learning (crazy, right? Haha) and I’m having a lot of fun as well. So if anyone ever has any questions about anything relating to college or if you are possibly interested in Grand Valley State (seriously, we need more Hoosiers up here!!!) then comment, add me on Facebook, PM me, just whatever you’re comfortable with. Here’s what the past week looks like:

Thursday, September 1:  35 minute run, about 5.25 miles. Felt pretty good today. Form was good, held a solid pace, and my leg felt fine. All felt right in the world today. Had a great lift and core session in the afternoon.  In the afternoon, all of the freshman jumped in the pool and we all aquajogged. Since I’m so experienced at aquajogging (something I’m not particularly happy about, by the way), I ended up showing some people how to do it the right way. We have about 15 freshman on the team, and not very many of them knew how to aquajog correctly. So watching some of them flounder for a few minutes with the floaty belts was kind of funny. But we ended up getting a solid workout in. 37 minute aquajog

Friday, September 2: 45 minute run, about 7 miles. Pretty warm today, but i still felt good. I hydrated well throughout the day and throughout the week, so I didn't feel like the heat affected me too much. Didn't feel much pain at all today, so I am obviously very happy about that. And I'm also hungry to really get in and mix it up with the training program and start getting in really good shape. And also for a sandwich ;). With my cross training I tried to simulate the mile repeat workout that the team did today, which was 5-8 mile repeats with minimal rest, to try to keep the workout aerobic. So I did a 12 minute warm up, 6x5:00 min hard with 1 min "jog" in between each rep, 13 min cool down. Felt pretty good on this too. If the heart rate monitor was correct, when I was going hard my heart rate was anywhere between 155 (beginning) and 180 (end). solid workout.

Saturday, September 3: 43:05 run, about 6.5 miles. Went for a morning run with Chad Cini today. We hit up the trails around campus, to stay on soft surface. We held a solid pace, probably a little under 7. Felt good again, practically no pain and my form felt good. Besides rolling my ankle twice and falling on wet grass, it was a really good run. It was just one of those runs, one of those runs…… Didn’t get my cross train in, but I got a solid 10 minutes of core.

Sunday, September 4: 40:26 run, about 6 miles. Ran with Chad again on the roads around campus. Held a fairly decent pace. Probably should have picked it up a little bit, as it really felt like we were chilling. Felt good pain-wise. I was a little upset with myself for not getting a cross train in yesterday, so when I went to the rec center to get a dandy in today, I was incensed when I saw that the rec center was closed today AND tomorrow for the Labor Day holiday. Me=not happy

CHECK THIS OUT!!! 1ST WEEKLY MILEAGE UPDATE: 35.75. YEAH, THAT’S ACTUALLY A WEEKLY MILEAGE TOTAL!!!!!

Monday, September 5: Feeling super sick today. Something has been going around the team, and I ended up catching it. I think it’s just a cold, so I should feel fine tomorrow. Today I just took the day off.

Tuesday, September 6: 44:51 run, about 7 miles. Today we ran out on some dirt roads fairly close to campus. It was a hill workout for the team, and I just ran the course. Some of the guys, and girls for that matter, were really killing it today, so I got a little excited and started running faster. I felt really good and strong today. Pain wise I felt awesome today, almost 100%. Felt strong and like i wasn't dreadfully out of shape. No cross train today either, still trying to get healthy.

Wednesday, September 7: 43:01 run, about 6.25 miles. Took this one solo today. Felt ok. Ran along the sides of the roads. Didn't feel too bad, but I didn't feel as good as i did yesterday. Still didn't feel bad at all. Again, no cross train. Not trying to do too much when I’m still sick and I had a major time crunch, as I had most of classes today.

Thursday, September 8: 30 minute AM elliptical session; morning lift. Tuesdays and Thursdays are our 6:30 morning practice days, so we all came in, got our lift on, and proceeded to do our training. Just an easy elliptical session for me this morning. My heart rate was hovering around 130. I’ll be running and probably cross training more later.

So that’s what I have for this past week. I’m feeling a lot better today (Thursday) than I did yesterday and especially two days ago. I’m definitely hungry/eager to get to a high training level and start getting in the mix. And this weekend look for GV results as we travel up to Big Rapids, MI to run in the Bulldog (Ferris State) invitational! And like I said at the beginning of this post, if you have any questions or comments about really anything or are possibly interested in GVSU, you can talk to me however you feel most comfortable.

Hi everyone! Look I’m actually on time this week!!! And this is actually pretty special because classes started Monday here, and I already have quite a bit of work to be doing. Scheduling is still kind of rough at the moment, as I haven’t figured out how to perfectly budget my time yet, but I’m sure by next week I will pretty much have it down. In addition to what I have been doing training-wise, I will also list my class schedule so that you all can maybe get a better or clearer picture of what the college experience has been like for me so far. Hope you all enjoy!

Thursday, August 25: Ran with new assistant coach Nick Polk and all of the freshman for half of it then I finished up the run by myself. We were definitely taking it easy, as I wasn't really trying and I was at the front. Felt good and strong; I think all of the core is starting to take effect. For cross training I split time on the bike and elliptical half and half. Didn’t go too hard today, but I made sure I wasn't taking it really easy. Running: 35 min Cross Training: 1 hr

Friday, August 26: Ran out at Warner today, which is about a mile and a quarter loop of dirt roads just west of campus. The whole team was doing a ladder fartlek today, so I felt a little motivated to go faster. I threw in about 12 minutes of up tempo running, and I felt pretty good. Then I threw in another ten minute core session. For cross training I went for an hour on the elliptical pretty easy. Running: 40:39 (~6) Cross Training: 1 hr elliptical

Saturday, August 27: No run today, so I had a little longer go on the elliptical today. I think I’ve said this like 5 times, but I really do believe that the elliptical is the best cross training machine, as it simulates running very well. Coach Baltes wanted me to do this long run style too, so I started out pretty conservatively then proceeded to pick up the pace throughout the workout. Towards the end, my heart rate was hovering around 180, so I was pretty happy with that. Running: None  Cross Training: 1hr 46 min elliptical

Sunday, August 28: First ever run a Pigeon Creek county park in my college career. I thought the trails were pretty good. I was able to go pretty fast at times. At one point our group caught up to some of the older guys, and we didn’t want to pass them because we probably would have gotten chewed a little bit. But eventually we broke off from them, and got going a pretty good clip again. Probably sub 620s. Felt very little pain. I didn’t cross train today, and that was definitely not planned. We have been saying the past couple of weeks that you can look at each day as either you won, or you lost. And hopefully at the end of your time capsule you have a lot more wins than losses. Today I would consider it a loss for me as I did not get in the workout I was supposed to. Sure the running was good, but I really have to do more than that at this point. Running: 44 min (~7) Cross Training: None

Monday, August 29: First day of class! Here we go! Only one class today, so I definitely ease in to the week. 8:00-8:50 is Music 100. Practice: 3:15-6:00.  Road/grass run today. Felt pretty good, a lot like i did yesterday. We held a pretty good pace, and we ran around on the outskirts of campus, on what was kind of a boring run. Running: 40 minutes Cross Training: 50 minutes

Tuesday, August 30: 6:30 A.M.: morning lift, core session, and run/cross train, 8:30-9:45 Spanish 321, 11:30-12:45 Geology Lecture., Practice 3:15/3:45-6:15. Today my leg was kind of hurting. I’ve been having some shin splints lately, and today I just didn’t feel right, so I ended up doing a little less. I’m sure I’m fine, but I would just like to get up to a high training level a little smoother than this. Got a great cross train in today though, really shook out of the recent two day funk that I was in. I did the hill workout that the team was doing on the elliptical, changing the resistance/levels to try to simulate a hill. I felt like I got a really solid workout in. Running: 33:20 Cross Train: 10 min w/u, 1 hr of workout, 5 min c/d.

Wednesday, August 31: 8:00-8:50 Music 100, 12:00-1:00 cross train, 3:00-4:50 Geology Lab, 5:00-5:45 Dinner, 6:00-8:50 Philosophy 101. Today there was no practice, it was just on your own, as all Wednesdays are here. Got in a decent cross train in the midst of all of my classes. Running: None Cross Train: 45 min fairly hard.

Well I think that about does it for this week. It is definitely a new and exciting time, the only thing that could make it better is if I was training at a much higher level. And also pretty importantly, I’m fairly certain that hot girl class lets out at 10:50. That seems like the best time for some reason. But anyway, if you have any questions or comments about anything don’t hesitate to post!!

8/25/2011

Hey guys. Sorry I’m delayed on this, it has been a hectic and exciting couple of weeks. Last week I didn’t have anything typed up before Tuesday, and I left for camp/school on Thursday morning, and I still had so much left to do for school that I just didn’t have time to give you guys an installment last week. But don’t you fret! I have been logging at running2win.com, as it is required for our team, so I can still give you guys a pretty accurate depiction of what I have been doing the last couple of weeks.

Thursday, August 11: Ran with an alum from north today, and he was pretty excited to run with us, so we went a little faster than usual. It was a pretty solid run, nothing too special. My form felt good, so I'm happy with that. Felt a little leg-weary on the bike ride, as i am used to doing biking before running, and I switched the order this time. But I ended up feeling fine and getting a pretty solid bike in. Run: 24 minutes Bike: 90 minutes

Friday, August 12: Ran with Gabe at the Columbus soccer fields today. All on grass, so i feel good about the softer surface. We held a pretty good pace: decently fast yet still conversation pace. I biked before the run today, so I didn’t have any problems biking. I found some hills again today. I prefer the hills to the flat land, as they ensure that I'm working hard enough. Because if I'm not working hard enough, I end up walking up the hill. Hasn't happened to me yet, and it had better not ever happen haha. Run: 27 minutes Bike: 105 minutes

Saturday, August 13: No run today. Just biking. I went to go find more hills today, as I really do think they help me more than just flat land. Run: None Bike: 115 minutes

Sunday, August 14: Ran with some of my friends today on our usual morning loop in Columbus. Ran a little faster than usual, getting progressively faster each mile. I think I did a little more than 4 miles. I ended up turning around before like Stubs, Dave, Kyle and Evan, so I figured I would just try to go a little faster. I felt really good, so why not? I went pretty fast on the bike ride today. I felt good, and the weather was great. There were three all-of-a-sudden rain downpours, so I really enjoyed the change of pace that that offerred. I think I got about 30 miles in. Run: 27:44 Bike: 125 minutes

Monday, August 15: Found some new trails today that I had no idea existed. I was just biking in the middle of nowhere and i saw what looked like trails, so I went and explored. I felt good on the run, didn't hurt at all. I feel like my form wasn’t as good as it should be, but I'll just have to see again tomorrow. Like I said, on the bike ride I took country roads into the middle of nowhere. But there was a rest stop close by that I stopped at to get water. I had to jump a fence to get in there, so I probably shouldn't have been there, but I needed water. It was necessary. ;)  Run: 27:05 Bike: 110 minutes

Tuesday, August 16:  Ran at the soccer fields again this afternoon. Felt okay, not great though. The shin splint pain felt a little worse today, but i just didn't ice well or stretch yesterday. Sprinkler system was going after I finished, so that was a nice little cool down. On my bike ride I went north of town again by the interstate for some country roads. I held a pretty good pace. Run: 30 minutes Bike: 90 minutes

Wednesday, August 17: I get to leave for Grand Valley tomorrow!! Camp starts in a couple of days so I’m really excited. Today I just took a day off of running, and just cross trained. I went for a 2 hour ride at a little slower pace than usual. I wasn’t walking, but I wasn’t flying either. Run: None Bike: 120 minutes

Thursday, August 18: Drove up to GV. We left at like 8 A.M, and got up and I moved all of my stuff in. Then we had a team meeting, signed all of our eligibility and drug test/policy papers, got our physicals with the team doctors (which only took like 3 hours to get all of us through, no big deal), and finally went out to Coach Baltes’ house for a nice team cookout. So no run or training today, so I’m not too happy about that, but I’m very excited to go to camp.                             Run: None Bike: None

Friday, August 19: We started the morning out with a nice little lift and core session. The lift is pretty light weight, so we’re not getting football huge over here, but it’s pretty tough and fast and definitely works a lot of muscle groups. Then we headed over to Camp Douglas Smith in Ludington, Michigan for our team camp. About half of the team stayed in cabins, and half were in tents. I, being as tough and cool as I am, decided to stay in a tent, as that is really what I’ve always done at running camps. We just had an afternoon training session, so I got a nice run and bike in. Run: 30 minutes Bike: 55 minutes

Saturday, August 20: Just kind of starting to get to know people. I forgot how tough it is being a freshman and having to learn almost every person on the team’s name! I know most of the freshman now, which is a good place to start. It’s going to take me a little time.                     Run: 35 minutes Bike: 55 minutes

Sunday, August 21: Today is the long run day at Grand Valley State. So if I was actually at a high training level, I would probably be doing 15-16 miles. Also, Coach wants us to pick up the pace gradually on the long runs. So instead of doing the whole run at say 6:40 pace, he wants us to try to cut down and maybe get some 6:05s to 6:15s in there. It is a cornerstone to the program up here, so it is very important to do it correctly. I ran and biked again today. I actually biked with one of the best girls on the team, and I was going pretty hard just to keep up. In my defense, she had a road bike and I was using a mountain bike on paved roads, but she is pretty darn good. Also we started a euchre tournament tonight. My partner, Bryce Pulley, and I ran up against a great team in the first round and lost. We gave them a good run, but I’m still pretty broken up that we lost. Well, maybe next year we’ll do a little better. Run: 35 minutes Bike: 70 minutes

Monday, August 22: Today we started off with just core and drills in the morning instead of a run. We did about 22 minutes of core this morning, if I remember correctly. It’s tough, but as Coach Baltes says, “You can never get enough core.” So needless to say, I have like a 12 pack now haha. But in the afternoon we went to a state park that had a lot of good trails and beaches to run on. I’m honestly not a fan of sand (Dunies workout for any of you Columbus North guys reading, I always sucked), but still got a good run in on some sandy trails. I also did aquajogging for cross training today, just for a little something different. Run: 30 minutes AJ: 35 minutes

Tuesday, August 23: Today was the last day of camp. As much fun I had at camp, I’m excited to get back to campus, learn the campus a little better, and get back into a nice, comfortable bed for some quality sleep. Today we did a morning session before we left, then we could just do whatever we needed to when we got back to campus. When I got back I made sure that I got a good cross train in, as I really need to make sure I stay up on it. And oh yeah, we did a nice 10 minute core session. Run: 35 minutes Bike(afternoon): 60 minutes

Wednesday, August 24: First day back on campus. I’m really excited to be here! And if anyone is considering attending Grand Valley State, you should definitely come up on a visit. This is the prettiest campus I have ever seen. Today I was told that I should take a day off from running, but that I needed to get a really good cross training workout in. So I jumped on the elliptical and did a fartlek-type workout. 10 min warmup, 8x5 min hard with 1 min easy inbetween; total of 65 minutes

Thursday, August 25: Nice morning run today. Again, I went for 35 minutes, and on trails. I felt good today pain-wise, so I think I’m going to take a step up next week. We also did drills, stretched and did a 5 minute core session. I followed all of this up with a nice ice bath, at the perfect temperature of 54 degress ;) Run: 35 minutes Cross Train: Later

So that’s about everything I’ve done the past couple of weeks. I feel like I’m about to really start to get ready to train at a higher level, and actually start to get decent at running again. But I’m excited for my situation, as I’ve met a lot of cool new people and I’m sure that I will meet more! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post!!

8/11/2011

What’s up, IR fans? Well, I was a pretty disappointed with my lower training last week and the way that I wrote about it, so I definitely wanted to up the ante this week. I biked longer and I tried to bike faster, as well as increasing my minutes of running by 3 minutes about every 4th day. So with all that being said, here’s what my last week looked like:

Thursday, August 4: 21 minutes of running; 2 hour bike

Friday, August 5: 21 minutes of running; 100 minute bike

Saturday, August 6: 2 hour bike

Sunday, August 7: 21 minutes of running; 2 hour bike

Monday, August 8: 21 minutes of running (messed that one up, was supposed to be 24, but I forgot to look at the schedule before I ran); 100 minute bike

Tuesday, August 9: 24 minutes of running; 110 minute bike

Wednesday, August 10: 2 hour bike

As I said earlier, I wanted to do more this week than last week, and I did. Granted, that was pretty easy because I really feel like I didn’t do what I needed to last week. On my rides I have also been trying to find more hills, as I feel that going up hills ensures that I’m working pretty hard. Running felt much better this week too. I think Tuesday was the best day I’ve had so far this summer. I felt really smooth, fairly fast, and that my form was solid. I’m really excited now for the coming weeks!

8/4/2011

Hey guys. Not too much to say again this week. Getting back into running definitely feels good, especially when you pretty much have to wait a whole summer to get back into it. Coming back is going well, the minutes aren’t hard on me at all, and I feel like my form is solid when I run too. Well here’s what I’ve done this past week:

Thursday, July 28: 15 minutes of running; 90 minutes of biking

Friday, July 29: 2 hour bike in the A.M.; bowling in the P.M.

Saturday, July 30: 15 minutes of running; 92 minutes of biking

Sunday, July 31: 18 minutes of running; 85 minutes of biking

Monday, August 1: 18 minutes of running; 80 minute bike

Tuesday, August 2: 2 hour bike

Wednesday, August 3: 18 minutes of running; night run with Evan Scruton

I went a little shorter on the biking this week. It was still pretty warm, a lot of days I didn’t have much to eat so I felt drained, and for some reason I just wasn’t as motivated as usual this week. Wednesday was a lot of fun. It’s Columbus North’s team camp week, and every year on Wednesday the alumni can come back and eat a large pasta dinner with the team. So I went with a few friends and got to see people on the team. Well that’s about it for this week, but if you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to ask!!

7/28/2011

Now I know what you all are thinking. "How could Thursdays possibly get any better?" It's an understandable thought, seeing as Thursdays are the days that you get to read my and Matt Dorsey's blogs. But in case you didn't know, the NFL lockout was lifted this past week like a weight room dumbbell, and do you know what that means? Thursday Night Football!!!! So in the future, Thursdays will somehow get a little bit better. And in honor of the lockout being lifted, every day this week in my blog will have an alliterating NFL star name attached to it.

Pierre Thomas Thursday, July 21 ---- 10 min + cross train

Larry Fitzgerald Friday, July 22 ---- 10 min + cross train

Asante Samuel Saturday, July 23 ---- cross train

Mark Sanchez Sunday, July 24 ----12 min + cross train

Peyton Manning Monday July 25 ----12 min + cross train

Tom Terrific Tuesday, July 26 --- cross train

Wes Welker Wednesday, July 27 --- 15 min + cross train

It really feels good to get back into running. I'm doing a pretty slow progression, as I probably won't make the varsity this year, so we're just playing it safe so I can eventually get up to a high training level and still be healthy. With an exception of Monday, I have been doing all of my running on the grass at the local soccer fields, so I'm getting in those soft-surface miles. And as I stated last week, the cross training is a bike ride that is pretty close to 2 hours. I didn't do any pool workouts this week.

Well that's what I have this week. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask!!

7/21/2011

What’s up, guys? Here comes Round 2. . I don’t really have too much to say this time, as my training looks pretty similar to last week, just with some running in there.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post away. My thread is practically a ghost town right now….

As I said at the end of my first blog, I just got cleared to run again from a stress fracture. I got a plan from Coach Baltes and Coach Lynn from GVSU, and this is exactly what they sent me:

Wednesday 13--- 7 min

Thursday 14 --- cross train

Friday 15 --- 8 min + cross train

Saturday 16 ---- cross train

Sunday 17 --- 9 min + cross train

Monday 18--- cross train

Tuesday 19 --- 10 min + cross train

Wednesday 20--- cross train

Thursday 21 ---- 10 min + cross train

Friday 22 ---- 10 min + cross train

Saturday 23 ---- cross train

Sunday 24 ----12 min + cross train

Monday 25 ----12 min + cross train

Let's move through this and see hour you're feeling, if all is well we probably will be able to progress a bit quicker after the 12 min.

As we talked yesterday, keep all the cross training in there on daysyou run.You can either do it in a double session...or run then cross train right after, a mix match would probably be best.

Also, as we talked yesterday, let's walk barefoot for 3-5 minutes on a smooth grass surface after each run as well

The cross training that I have in there is the same as it has been, usually 2 hour bike rides at about 4 minute pace or so with an occasional 70-80 minute pool (aquajog) workout.

That's pretty much what I've done this week. It's really nice to get back into running again, and I can't wait to really get into the swing of higher level training again.

Again, if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to post!!!

7/14/2011

Hey IR followers! I hope that you are enjoying reading all of our training blogs and having a fantastic summer! But before you read my blog, I just want to give you a little background on my running career.

I have gone through quite a bit throughout my career. I’ve seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows. I’ve been on two state championship teams, one 3rd place national team, placed 12th in the 1600 as a sophomore, and ran in 5 state meets. I have also had 4 stress fractures that have essentially cut my career in half. But all of these things have made me a much better person and runner, and I’m committed to making myself better every day. Not one day is taken for granted any more, therefore even my cross training is pretty intense. Speaking of cross training, I currently have a lingering stress fracture that caused me to miss this past track season, so my training log will be all auxiliary or cross training.  I don’t want to be too far behind when I come back, so I try to work as hard as I can. So here is my training blog. I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to comment!!!!

MONDAY, JULY 4:

I took the day off today. I was travelling back from Arkansas from my Grandpa’s wedding all day. It was a pretty long car ride, about 9 hours or so, but I really enjoy travelling and seeing the country, so it wasn’t too bad. Sure, my butt hurt really bad, but it was really nice to get home.

TUESDAY, JULY 5:

TRAINING: 2 hour bike ride; approximately 30 miles

Yeah, they are this big in Arkansas

COMMENTS: A good ride. As I said earlier, I just got back from Arkansas, so it was really good to get back in the saddle again, and to shake off all of the Arkansan mosquitoes off of my legs. I felt like I held a pretty solid pace the whole way through. The part that I biked that was measured I was going well

under 4 minute mile pace, so I figure I slowed down a little once

I wasn’t on the measured course. I also finished pretty strong, and

that always feels good.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6:

TRAINING: 1 hr. 56 min. bike ride; approximately 27 miles

COMMENTS: I actually found some hills today, which is surprisingly hard to do around Columbus. This one was a good, classic country road ride. I don’t know about all of you guys, but I really enjoy the solitude of the country roads. It’s just you, your mind, and the scenic serenity of the country. Today I actually went back on the course that my friends and I used for our Run to Hope run at PAAVO Columbus last spring break. If you are wondering, PAAVO Columbus is pretty self-explanatory; we set up our own PAAVO-style week using Columbus and surrounding area places to run. Just a plug here, if you have any PAAVO questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.

THURSDAY, JULY 7:

TRAINING: Timed 10 mile ride (38:05; 3:49 pace); + 42 minutes

 (80 minutes total)

COMMENTS: Well, I wanted to see how fast I could do a ten mile ride. I know what you all are thinking… “Man, this dude sucks at biking,” and you would be correct. Honestly, I do suck at biking, but what can I say, I’m a runner. My bike isn’t a good speed bike either, but I just gave a solid effort, and that’s really what matters. It’s really all about giving a solid effort, and while cross training just getting one’s heart rate up for an extended period of time is the goal. So I went pretty hard and got more miles so I could get a better aerobic benefit.

FRIDAY, JULY 8:

TRAINING: 71 minute bike ride; approximately 18 miles

COMMENTS: I went shorter and faster today. I was on a bit of a time crunch today, as I had a lot to do in the morning and then a big Krazy Drank Pong Tournament at 5:30. But goal-oriented people find ways, and I got the ride in. Oh yeah, how ‘bout that Krazy Drank Pong Tournament? Before I get into details, a little background is required:

One crazy night at Kyle Burton’s house (one of my friends

who was a senior on the cross team), we had a bunch of

Kool-Aid, and it just wasn’t packing the flavor punch that

we wanted. So we decided to put what would make a two

quart pitcher of kool-aid into one 16 oz. cup. It was a bold

move, but then the next week, we took it a step further. We

again had our “kool-aid on steroids”, but this time we had

Hawaiian Punch as an available drink option. So some genius,

I don’t remember who exactly, put two and two together.

Instead of using the typical water to mix the kool-aid drink,

we started using Hawaiian Punch. And, BOOM!!! There it

was: awesome in a cup. And it was far to crazy to give it any

old name, so we called it Krazy Drank. Way too crazy to be

spelled with a “C”.  So in conclusion, Krazy Drank is a whole

Kool-Aid packet, one cup of sugar, mixed with Hawaiian

Punch, and all of that in one 18 oz. cup. So for all these math people

on here,

KRAZY DRANK =

         +             +

_________________________________________________________________

Then the “Pong” is just like Beer Pong. Here’s a good picture of what it’s like:

So the goal of the game is for your team to throw your ping pong balls into the other team’s cups, without puking of course. We play full 18 oz. cups. Loser goes home. The puke scenes are caught on video. The winners become instant legends of the sport. Yeah, it gets pretty intense.

Krazy Drank Pong has now become a Columbus North cross country tradition, so now we host an annual tournament. So I guess if you’re looking for a secret to why we Bull Dogs are good at running, it is obviously not our training, it’s this kind of stuff right here.

But needless to say, my team won, and for the second straight year. So here’s a dumb Indianapolis-style shout out to my bros Andrew Diehn and Nick

“Coff Drop” Coffey. We are all contemplating going pro right now.

So that’s why the bike ride was a little short today. But if you had something like this going on in your neighborhood, wouldn’t you participate? Wow, that was the definition of digression…

SATURDAY, JULY 9:

TRAINING: A.M: 25 minute bike ride; NOON: 18 min. ride; P.M: 2 hours, 17

  min. ride (3 hours total)

COMMENTS: Big day! Well, I finished my ride yesterday at Kyle’s house for the KDP tournament and spent the night, so I needed to bike home in the A.M. As I said earlier, Columbus is really pretty small, so I had to take the long way to get a sufficient ride in. At noon I was really bored, so I decided I would actually do something worthwhile. Then in the afternoon I was confronted with the decision to either “Go Big or go Bergie”, (a joke we always make on Andrew Beiriger), so I decided to go big and go for a 3 hour day. Plus, Michael Sublette didn’t think I could or would do it, so I had to prove him wrong… again. I did it though. My mouth was super dry for about an hour of that, but I just stayed focused and finished it. This was definitely a challenge, as I was doing something I had never done before and also doing more than I had ever done before, so it felt good to finish this ride. I think that this ride will enable me to do more in the future and also allow me to go faster on my shorter rides.

SUNDAY, JULY 10:

TRAINING: 1 hour pool workout

COMMENTS: Jumped in the pool. Aquajogged for an hour. Got out. Yeah, that’s

     pretty much it.

MONDAY, JULY 11:

TRAINING: A.M: 22 min. ride; P.M: 100 min. ride

COMMENTS: I think that this was the hardest day to ride all summer. It was really warm, and also pretty windy. At times I felt like I was walking. But I got the ride in, and gave a good effort. After I was done I definitely partook in the glycogen recovery process; downing a lot of chocolate milk, a cup of Hawaiian punch, and 4 huge popsicles. There’s nothing like replenishing after a hard workout.

TUESDAY, JULY 12:

TRAINING: 80 min. ride

COMMENTS: Not too much to say about it really. The ride seemed to go by pretty fast, so that’s a good thing. Also today was my follow up doctors appointment. I got cleared to do really light, short runs for the next three weeks. Short in this case meaning under 20 minutes. I’ll definitely be supplementing that with cross training, but it’s always nice to get back into running.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 13:

TRAINING: 7 minute run

COMMENTS: Today was my first run pretty much since I graduated. Nice to start up again, and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic or excited to get back into it!! No cross training today as I was up at GVSU for orientation all day, then the 5 hour trip back took all day. I’ll post my back-to-running plan in my next wonderful section.

Bio:

What’s up Indiana Runner fans!? I’m Tim Hofmeister, and I just graduated from Columbus North High School and I will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall. Aside from going to school, running, and writing ridiculously awesome biographies about myself, I enjoy good movies, long walks on the beach, drinking piña coladas, getting caught in the rain, and clichés.

Kidding aside, I am a HUGE sports fan, so I could talk about all sports all day long. I’m also a very approachable guy, so if you ever have questions or comments on my training, feel free to bring it up and I would be happy to answer anything that you come up with.

As I said earlier, I chose D2 at GVSU. I thought that Division 2, especially at Grand Valley, would be the best place for me. The team is still incredibly competitive, as they have one of the best D2 programs in the country, yet a family-like atmosphere is still maintained. That is the way the team is at Columbus North, and I couldn’t see myself being a part of a program that wasn’t that way. At Grand Valley I knew that I could continue my running career and have a good deal of success in the future, but I could also get an excellent education, as that is the point of going to college.  On that note, I plan on studying Spanish Education to become a high school Spanish teacher.
So that’s a little bit about me, and I hope that you guys enjoy what I have to say about training!!!!
