The Panthers never made a podium appearance in this decade, their closest coming with the seventh place finish this year. Still, South made eight trips to the state meet in the last ten years, finishing in the top ten twice. In that same time frame, the Panthers have been the most dominant team in the southern semistate, winning four titles.

Nicole Lucas, who was eighth at this year’s state finals, has been the best individual performer for the Panthers. Freshman teammate Anna Voskuil, who finished All-State and beat Lucas at the majority of regular season races, has the potential to become the best South runner yet. The Panthers only had three All-Staters in the decade, mostly because they got it done with a deep pack rather than a few frontrunners.

Heading into the new decade, things have never looked better for South. With a new and young coach, the Panthers return five of seven from their best team in many years, including two All-Staters. A podium appearance could certainly be in their future.
