Top Female Sprinters
1/2/2012
by: Coach Cash
Morgan Yeadon 12 Pike
Amazing power from such a small frame. She works hard on her form and technique, and it shows. Her block starts are incredible.
Katie Wise 12 Indian Creek
She doesn't run any national meets, her outdoor schedule is not very challenging leading up to the tournament, and yet she improves every year. She is a
true phenom.
Brionna Thomas 10 Wayne
She is a very raw talent. She doesn't start well, nor does she run a very good turn. But she is to the final 30 meters, what Tim Tebow is to the fourth quarter. She has an incredible upside, could be the best sprinter we will see until Lynna Irby or Samira Killebrew.
Chelsea Yeadon 11 Pike
She should be fully healed after suffering a terrible foot injury a few days before the state meet. Not as intense as her older sister, but just as competitive. She is also a great long jumper and a good 800 runner.
Shannon Parker 12 Warren Central
Often overlooked, she is the best sprinter in the MIC. But her training partners are relatively young, not sure if that will have an effect on her or not.
Dyamond Morris 10 North Side
Overshadowed by Thomas last year, but a great talent in her own right. She had the best freshman year by a North Side freshman since Andrea Brown.
Aaliyah McKinney 12 South Bend Adams
Very tough runner, and will travel to the ends of the earth to find competition.
Montayla Holder 12 Lawrence Central
She actually started out as a really good hurdler, but moved to the sprints last year. Because of her versatility, I think that has made her one of the top
college prospects in the state.
Jocelyn Miller 10 North Central
For most of last season, she ran with the weight of the world on her shoulders, and she struggled mightily. But thanks to changed perspectives, the added pressure was taken off of her and she managed to have a great season.
Chayil Henderson 12 Thea Bowman Academy
Unfortunately for her, it looks like a down year for NWI sprinting, and Thea Bowman usually doesn't travel well.
Alexis Harvey 11 Bellmont
The obvious star of Bellmont's "Fab Four", she is an unbelievably strong 200 runner. Not great out of the blocks, but that should improve.
Juanesha Byrd 12 Southport
She has been unlucky with having an off race at the worst possible time. But after a disappointing sectional meet, she spent the whole summer competing and getting better. This should be a great season for her.
Enissa Wimby 10 Snider
She is a big part of the Snider resurgence. I'd be surprised if she was not voted team co-MVP along with Karrina Smith.
Alexis Scott 10 Northrop
Faded away due to injuries last year, but she was absolutely blistering in the early going.
Christa Hammond 12 Lawrence North
Wow, talk about shadows. Weatherford, the Spencer sisters, Tender. And now she is finally center stage. You better believe she is ready.
Rashawnda Shamell 12 Evansville North
The best Evansville sprinter since Nikita Owens. Unfortunately for her, she won't see much competition until the state meet.
Akilah Sims 12 Snider
At one point, I thought she would be the next Candyce McGrone. But I think she is more of a basketball player.
Brittany Goggans 10 Hamilton Southeastern
Gave one of the best interviews of the year: http://www.fox59.com/videobeta/3169b1a2-85eb-49f0-9aca-1ba853229c63/Sports/200-Meter-Dash:-HSE's-

Tiana O'Steen 12 Hamilton Southeastern
Can be seen running next to Goggans on the video. Very solid runner, but not technically consistent. Great build for a sprinter, and should be an easy sub-25 200 runner.
Rachel Staud 11 St. Joseph's
She is the top sprinter on what is probably the best team in school history. More on them later. Staud is also a stud soccer player.
Anjelica Peppers 11 Merrillville
She reminds my a lot of Stephanie Neville. Runs hard and consistent, but will need to find that next gear this year.
Maggie Bell 12 Chatard
The ultimate utility track athlete. She will do whatever is needed for the team. The most mentally tough athlete in the state.
Aneitra Butler 12 Ben Davis
Not the quickest out of the blocks, but she has incredible top end speed. Extremely powerful runner, and works very hard at perfecting her form.
Briana Jones 11 Ben Davis
Unlike Butler, she is extremely quick out of the blocks, but tends to fade after 60 meters.
Morgan Carroll 12 St. Joseph's
She is a lot better when she can focus on the 200 without having to run the 100. Look for her to run the open 400 a few times this season.
Mercedes Washington 12 West Side
It seems like she has been in high school for at least eight years; for at West Side, and four at Merrillville. She is a great talent, snd this should be her best year.
Lauren Stutzman 12 Goshen
Former training partner of Mandy Jones and Skyler Carpenter, she has yet to have that breakout season.
Oshtisha Jackson 10 Warren Central
Incredible work ethic, and would run through a brick wall for her coach. Should be a breakout year for her.
Ashanetta Harris 10 Warren Central
Very competitive, but she has the uncanny knack of keeping her teammates relaxed. She should explode along with Jackson.
Jasmin McCray 12 Lawrence Central
She consistently got better throughout the season. Very good at holding her form.
Nicole Fleugel 12 New Palestine
She needs some work on the early stages of her races, but she has a powerful finish. Could move to the 400.
Ann Harvuot 10 Warsaw
Very good build for a sprinter; long and lean. Needs more efficient arm motion (she runs like a soccer player).
Symone Black 10 Concordia
With all of the super soph sprinters in the Fort Wayne area, I'm not sure if she will convert to a full time hurdler.
Morgan Haney 10 Pike
A freak injury at the beginning of last season held her back. Look for a breakout season from her this year.
Kimyanna Rudolph 12 Lawrence Central
One of the best pole vaulters in the midwest, but can also burn up the track as well.
Darrian Randle 12 Marion
Her older brother, Devon, was one of the best sprinters in recent school history. Her career hasn't been as good up to this point, but her talent is undeniable.
Ryianna Wallace-Coleman11 Snider
Her great sophomore season was overshadowed by many others in the area that had phenomenal freshman seasons. Snider is loaded with sprinters.
Wanda Long 12 Wayne
She has always been solid, but is still waiting on that breakthrough season.
Darian Mehne 11 Jasper
Fiesty sprinter that loves to compete. Ran the AAU circuit through Kentucky this past summer. Her main rival, Athena Haake of Forest Park, has graduated. She will need to find some good competition if she wants improvement.
Mandy Jones 12 Westview
Very great technician out of the blocks, but doesn't have true top end speed to make it out of the extremely tough Northrop regional.
Leanna Mulloy 10 Kankakee Valley
Kankakee Valley made a huge leap last season, and she was the main reason why. It's not often that a freshman is also THE leader of the team, but that is exactly how it went down. A true perfectionist.
Ann Fowler 11 Tecumseh
Only 5'4, but stands tall as a three sport star. Should take advantage of going through the Evansville regional.
Erin Weisenbach 11 Fishers
It's all going to come down to preparation, and whether her offseason was more productive than others in her sectional. Fortunately, Coach Ceasar is one of the best offseason coaches in the state.
Shai Warfield 11 Bloomington North
After making national headlines, it was understandable why she had an up and down season. I hope she makes it to the state meet this year, not only to compete, but also to sing the National Anthem.
Briana Thompson 12 Merrillville
Suffered an untimely injury during sectionals last season. She should be headed to Bloomington to do some big things. As with any other basketball player, we hope she makes it through the winter unscathed.
Quin Shoultz 11 Columbus North
Should be more consistent in the sprints. Already a top long jumper.
Sydney Race 12 Martinsville
I'm not going to say much about her as a sprinter, because I'm going to say a lot about her in the long jump preview.
Melissa Rios 11 Whiteland
She may be better off if she dropped the 200, but she's put in a lot of work during the offseason, so she may have the strength to pull of the double.
Jasmine McFadden 11 North Central
There are a lot of sprinters listed ahead of her that simply are not as gifted as she is. Not sure why she hasn't put it together yet, but this could be her year.
Morgan McNelly 11 Scottsburg
Should have some fierce battles with Madison's Mandy Stoll this year. Without a threat in Jeffersonville, should be an easy road to the state meet.
