Top Girls Long Jumpers
1/22/2012

By Coach Cash

Chelsea Yeadon                        11         Pike

This is her favorite event. Has the fastest approach in the state, and will have extra motivation this year after missing the state finals due to a freak injury. Little sister Ashlyn Winters is projected to win this event in 2017.

Skyler Carpenter            12         Westview

Doesn't have the greatest landing, but her takeoff position is textbook. Great speed on the runway. Her technique works well for her, I call it the

"ollie".

Karrina Smith                10         Snider

I'm expecting big things from her this year, mainly because I don't see her running the 4x800, as she did last year. She should be a lot more fresh for all of her jumps.

Kaitlyn Moricz               11         Lake Central

Has great position at the board, and has amazing pop. Works incredibly hard in practice, and it shows in meets. Also participates in gymnastics.

Mandy Jones                12         Westview

Last year's state runner up. I feel bad ranking her this low, because I think she is always underestimated. She has improved every year. I can't say enough about her dedication and competitive nature.

Kendricka Caldwell        10         Northwest

When she is locked in, it is scary to see what she is capable of, and she has great potential. That being said, I think she made a big mistake by not running summer track this year. Track is her only sport, and her coach was willing.

Lauren Stutzman            12         Goshen

"What if she had never transferred from Westview?" Easily the most unfair question asked last year. Aside from that, I love the way she competes. She has a chip on her shoulder, always with something to prove. Super intense.

Twyla Winfrey                12         Broad Ripple

Amazing pop off of the board. Her approach isn't the most consistent, but she knows how to muscle a big jump when she needs it.

Enissa Wimby               10         Snider

Incredible speed on the runway. Performed consistently throughout last season, which rarely happens for a freshman. Also plays basketball.

Jordyn Knott                 12         Garrett

Has a beautiful hang technique with a hint of "the ollie". Her landing seems to cut every jump short by about a foot. Also plays basketball and volleyball.

Mikaila Chamblee          12         Saint Joseph's

Exploded with a 17'9 jump at last year's HSR final, but never came close to that mark the rest of the season. Extremely talented and has a lot of speed and power. Can be an easy 18 foot jumper.

Sydney Race                12         Martinsville

Her hitch kick technique is better than any other jumper in the state. Needs to be more aggressive on the runway.

Makelle Skelton             11         Northrop

Tough utility athlete that is great under pressure. Expects nothing, and works to get everything.

Sophie Meier                 11         Chatard

She does not feel pressure, and is always capable of getting a big jump at any moment. Her school doesn't have a track, so her regular season competitions are more like practices. Good speed on the runway.

Ali Charles                    12         Noblesville

A back injury during the offseason caused her to struggle most of last year. Deceptively fast, and an intense student of the event. Should be healthy and over 18 feet this year.

DaJaie Clay                  11         Warren Central

Just discovered she has the ability to long jump last season. Tall and lean, has a very good build, but lacks runway speed.

Mariah Davis                 12         Zionsville

Her greatest asset is also her greatest liability. She is a fiery competitor, but she needs to control her emotions in adverse situations. Fun to watch when she's brings her "A" game.

Lauren Davis                 11         Hamilton Southeastern

Speed jumper that has a smooth and consistent approach. I tried to find out if HSE sprinter Ryan Davis is her brother, but haven't got an answer yet. Curiosity remains.

Taylor VanArsdale         12         West Lafayette Harrison

Very high aptitude for learning technical events. I have her just outside of my top ten for best athletes in the state list.

Hannah Gilstrap             12         Henryville

Younger sister of former Henryville great Maggie Gilstrap. Is not as talented as Maggie, but she is still a very solid jumper.

Cierra Barcus                10         Jay County

Last year, it seemed like she was in the midst of a growth spurt, and was struggling to find coordination. She is an extremely talented athlete, built

like Darya Klishina. Needs to work on speed.

Kailey Evans                 12         Greenwood

She hasn't had the impact in this event that I expected her to have when I saw her in middle school, but I don't think this is her main sport. She is a great basketball player, and also plays volleyball.

Sheldon Falls                12         Riverton Parke

One of the few athletes that have to balance track and field with softball. She does both very well. Very good athlete.

Briana Williams              11         Munster

Very powerful build, and has great speed.  Plays basketball, but I'm guessing that track will be her main sport. She reminds me a lot of Veronica Campbell-Brown

Moriah Fisher                10         Ben Davis

Extremely competitive and isn't intimidated by anyone. Has a habit of making too many adjustments on the fly. Classic overthinker.
