Top Boys Long Jumpers

By Coach Cash
Jeron Brown 12 Lawrence Central
#1 overall athlete in the state. Extremely versatile. Has a natural gift for jumping, and amazing pop off of the board. Should be a 24 foot jumper this year. The main question is whether or not he will be used on the 4x800.
Ray Beverly 12 Pike
Perfect size for a long jumper. Penultimate and plant steps are textbook. He actually had the longest jump of the entire 2011 season, his first attempt of his first meet. I think he may have pressed a lot after that, and never came close again. 24'+ this year.
Shawn Jackson 12 Manual
Gets a lot out of his short approach. I noticed how surprised he was to see the camaraderie amongst the jumpers and coaches in the state. I think it kept him at ease through his state tournament run.
Jordan Romanov 12 Valparaiso
Amazing hops, but doesn't have the fastest approach. Very good technique.
Errick Roberts 11 Ben Davis
Power jumper. Must improve both speed and flexibility. Will probably run more short sprints this year to build his speed and acceleration.
Devyn Mikell 11 Avon
Has the best hitch kick in the state. As a matter of fact, he was able to do a full hitch at the age of 9. His brother is an All American jumper at Indiana Wesleyan.
Nathan Brown 12 East Noble
Great build for a track athlete. Needs to get more sprint speed, takes a long time to get to top speed.
Blake Barlow 12 Carmel
Needs to improve his landing technique, and his speed should be better than last year. His health shouldn't become an issue this year if he learns the benefits of rest and recovery. Sometimes less is more.
Keshawn Robinson 10 Plainfield
He will only get better as he continues to hit the weights. Shows promise as a football player. Doesn't have great speed, but he uses what he has very well.
Carlton Chaney 10 North Central
I absolutely hated to see this kid move away from BD. Great student of the sport, excellent leadership potential. The most reliable freshman I have ever coached. I am glad that he has fallen into the very capable hands of Coaches Franklin and Carter.
Isaiah Thomas 11 Morgan Township
He is still learning the event, but he has been a very quick study. Tremendous upside from him, and he has the potential to be a state qualifier in other events as well.
Jordan Knapp 12 Plymouth
Had a nightmare of a meet in last year's regional. Tough competitor, as he showed in football. Also plays on the tennis team.
Thomas Reason 12 Marion
I think he has the best long jump coach in the state. Was very consistent last year, but was never able to break the 22 foot barrier. I think it was more mental than anything else.
Matt Dickerson 12 Greenfield Central
Power jumper, but also has excellent speed on the runway. His technique has a lot of room for improvement.
Jaron Terry 12 Muncie Central
Very explosive, needs to change his approach strategy to make it more consistent.
Wade Harrison 11 North Vermillion
I find it amazing that he still had energy left last season. He plays four sports: Football, wrestling, baseball, and of course...track. Doesn't have great technique, but with all that he does, that is understandable.
Taylor Christensen 11 Hamilton Southeastern
Doesn't have the technique that teammate Zach Reitzug has, but is a better overall athlete. Also plays football.
Zach Reitzug 11 Hamilton Southeastern
Even though he is a really good football player, he is awfully dedicated to track. Competes on the USATF circuit in the summer. He is also sneaker junkie, I'll refrain from plugging his website, but I'm sure he can tell you about it.
Timothy Deal 10 Penn
A star in the making. Amazing ability to learn technical events.
Austin Jamerson 11 Merrillville
If he is required to run a relay, this might be the first event that he drops. However, I think he has the potential to be all state in long jump and high jump...not sure about his other events though.
Jacob Moran 12 Franklin Community
I think last year was a disappointment for him. He had always been able to rely on being more athletic than guys around him, and that wasn't the case last year, in track or in soccer. He needs to get back to the basics, and work on the little things. He was all state as a freshman.
Jordan Elsey 12 Center Grove
Solid jumper. I think he will be really good this year if he drops high jump. Also plays football.
Dontell Parker 10 Heritage
Showed promise as a freshman, but was terribly inconsistent(as all freshman are). I'm interested to see how he has developed over the offseason.
Chase Scott 11 Jeffersonville
Went unnoticed for most of the season because he was overshadowed by Jeremy Martin. Gained valuable experience through competing at the state meet.
Jacorey Dodd 12 Warren Central
Extremely soft spoken and hard working. A bit on the small side, but had really good pop. Must increase speed to be a real threat.
