Top Boys High Jumpers

By Coach Cash
CJ Smith 12 Lawrence Central
One of the classiest competitors that I have ever witnessed in all of my years of coaching. Has the same outgoing, supportive demeanor if he is doing well or if he is having an off day. Has the potential to set the state meet record.
Will Schott 12 Roncalli
Has a great build for a collegiate decathlete. Season out look remains good, despite two big losses; Jumps coach Travis Rodgers is now at Fishers, and training partner Julian Zunarelli has graduated.
Stephen Kolbe 10 Warsaw
Came on strong towards the end of last season. Clutch performer. Jumps well in all conditions. Has a really bright future.
Matt Stewart 11 Hobart
Also a solid hurdler, he needs to have a big year if this is to be the best team in Hobart's history. He starts training pretty early, so we should seem some big jumps from him in March.
Kewan Davis 12 Southport
Tranferred from Lawrence Central to Southport last year for basketball reasons, so spent most of last year adjusting to new settings. I was impressed that he ran track at all last year.
Alex Rowe 12 Ben Davis
Tough competitor. Delayed a necessary shoulder surgery until after last season so he wouldn't miss any meets. That decision cost him his final football season, but had him ready for the wrestling and track seasons.
Stephen Keller 12 Kouts
Considering his dad is a track coach, Stephen is a relatively raw athlete. Things started to click for him at the end of the year. He was a 5'8 jumper as a sophomore, and didn't jump again until late last year.
Paris Davenport 12 Griffith
The best jumper to come out of Griffith since Lance Moe. But he is not nearly as polished as Moe.
Austin Jamerson 11 Merrillville
This guy is everywhere on the track. There isn't much that he can not do. He is usually a quick starter, and does a lot of indoor meets. Top ten overall athlete.
Eric Blackmon 11 Evansville Harrison
Had a very slow start to last season, but things started to click right before sectionals. Should be motivated to train in an all new facility. Also plays football and basketball.
Nick Jaeger 12 Terre Haute South
Loves to compete against solid competition, and plans to be the top jumper in the MIC. Also plays basketball.
Dan Purvlicis 12 Noblesville
Hasn't been able to get over the 6'7 barrier, but he has tons of potential. Prototypical build for a high jumper.
Carrington Robinson 11 Wayne
Came from nowhere to place fourth at HSR finals last year. Doesn't go for big jumps every meet, which is a good thing. It kept him fresh for a late season run.
Jordan Romanov 12 Valparaiso
Amazing potential, but struggles a bit with consistency...which is normal for anyone who does two field events in one meet. I think he can be a great multi eventer at the next level.
Chris Vincent 11 Princeton
If he is able to find some decent competition this year, he can make some big improvements this year. Very good athlete.
Mike Metzger 12 North Central
A guy that may fly under the radar all year, even though he shouldn't. Extremely hard worker. Has the homefield advantage at most of his important meets.
Braden Barnett 12 Eastern
Is it time to give some shine to the amazing high jump coaches at Eastern? He was a 5'9 jumper at the end of the indoor season, placing 5th at HSR. His confidence grew from that point on, and he became one of the best in the state.
Aaron Marshall 12 Hamilton Southeastern
Very athletic, and not very tall for a high jumper. Only about 6'0, but has really good technique.
Brendon Murray 12 Hamilton Southeastern
He will be a force once he arches over the bar a little better . I have never seen him get his hips high enough, he just sits flat over the bar. Could be a 6'9 jumper this year.
Nathan Brown 12 East Noble
Solid all around athlete, also a top long jumper.
Richard Freeman 11 Lawrence Central
Opportunistic jumper. Took advantage or Davis' departure, and also took advantage at the regional when other jumpers faltered. His build will make him one of the top recruits in 2013.
Joey Reed 11 Perry Meridian
Was overshadowed by the other Marion County high jumpers last year, but always competed well and was never intimidated by his competition. Amazing poise, and ability to convert third attempts.
Ja'Ron Terry 12 Muncie Central
Not very tall, and has a short approach, but is extremely explosive. Reminds me a lot of Bryan Clay.
